The demographic change has consequences for the sustainability of the public pension system. This presents a challenge for policy-makers as they have to communicate in an adequate way with those concerned about the necessary adaptations and reforms. At the same time, these changes mean more self-responsibility for old-age security in an environment which is more and more characterized by uncertainty.

Whether there is a change in the behavior (openness for reforms, engagement in other forms of old-age security) depends on what individuals know about the old-age security system and on their attitudes. This project wants to contribute to a better understanding of the importance of (lack of) knowledge and attitudes for realizing the necessary behavioral change.
